Nine Tiers of Verified Proficiency

Every ACES tier corresponds to a specific ELO range and proficiency level, measured and maintained by the AccelaStudy engine. Expert (1300+) is the minimum threshold to appear in recruiter searches.

Trainee

New learners just starting out
400 – 799 ~0 – 30%

You're building initial familiarity with the domain. The engine is discovering your baseline and identifying which knowledge nodes need the most attention. Keep studying — the adaptive algorithm is already optimizing your path.

Apprentice

Early-stage learners with growing foundations
800 – 999 ~30 – 45%

Foundational knowledge is forming. You can answer straightforward questions reliably but struggle with nuance and distinctions between related concepts. The engine is targeting your specific confusion points.

Practitioner

Working professionals brushing up
1000 – 1149 ~45 – 55%

Solid understanding of core concepts. You can distinguish between related ideas and apply knowledge to standard scenarios. Gaps remain in advanced topics and edge cases. Typical time to reach: 2–4 weeks of consistent study.

Specialist

Serious learners approaching readiness
1150 – 1299 ~55 – 65%

Above-average proficiency. You're handling most advanced questions correctly and narrowing the remaining gaps. You're close to the visibility threshold. Push through the final 65% barrier to become discoverable.

Visibility Threshold — Expert and above appear in recruiter searches

Expert

Candidates ready for technical roles
1300 – 1449 ~65 – 75%

Strong, verified proficiency. You can explain concepts clearly, distinguish nuances, and apply knowledge to complex scenarios. This is the minimum tier to appear in ACES recruiter searches. Typical time to reach: 4–8 weeks of consistent study.

Senior Expert

Experienced professionals with deep knowledge
1450 – 1599 ~75 – 85%

Deep knowledge with cross-topic fluency. You handle edge cases and can explain the "why" behind architectural decisions. Recruiters see you above Experts in search results. Typical time to reach: 2–3 months.

Principal

Top-tier practitioners and architects
1600 – 1799 ~85 – 92%

Exceptional mastery. You command the domain at a level that surprises most professionals. Very few knowledge nodes remain weak. This tier sends a strong "hire immediately" signal to recruiters. Typical time to reach: 3–6 months.

Distinguished

Domain authorities and senior architects
1800 – 1999 ~92 – 97%

Elite proficiency. You have near-complete coverage of the domain's knowledge graph, including rare edge cases, historical context, and cross-domain implications. Distinguished candidates are extremely rare and highly sought after.

Ace

The absolute best in the domain
2000+ ~97%+

Complete domain mastery. The Ace tier is the highest achievable rank in ACES. You've demonstrated proficiency across virtually every knowledge node in the domain. Fewer than 1% of candidates reach this level. The name says it all.

Getting There

How to Climb the ACES Ladder

Study Consistently

30 minutes a day is more effective than 4-hour weekend sessions. The engine optimizes for consistent, spaced practice. ELO gains compound over time.

Trust the Engine

The adaptive algorithm knows which knowledge nodes need work. Don't skip questions you find hard — those are the ones driving the most ELO growth.

Go Multi-Domain

Expert in one domain is good. Expert across three related domains is a career accelerator. Recruiters specifically search for multi-domain candidates.

Time Investment

Estimated Time to Reach Each Tier
